Passersby are invited to chose from a menu of selections by the creator of Mary Poppins, born "Helen Lyndon Goff" in Australia but who changed her name to Pamela Lyndon Travers, Travers being the first name of her father who died when she was seven years old, and emigrated to London. The selection will then be read to them.

More information about P.L. Travers can be found at Wikipedia, and you can read a full interview with her from 1982 in The Paris Review.

PL Travers worked as a Music Hall performer in the 1920s"I have the patience of a boa constrictor,"

sniffed Mary Poppins.

"You know, in America, everybody thinks there’s an answer to every question. They’re always saying, “But why and how?” They always think there is a solution. There is a great fortitude in that and a great sense of optimism. In Europe, we are so old that we know there are certain things to which there is not an answer. And you will remember, in this regard, that Mary Poppins’s chief characteristic, apart from her tremendous vanity, is that she never explains."
